“Blitzkrieg Bop” is a song by the American punk rock band the Ramones. Written by drummer Tommy Ramone and bassist Dee Dee Ramone, it was released as the band’s debut single in February 1976 in the US. It also appeared as the opening track on the band’s debut album “Ramones” which was released on April 23, 1976.

“Blitzkrieg Bop” ranks number 92 on the Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. In 2008 Rolling Stone ranked it number 18 on the list of the 100 greatest guitar songs of all time. In 2009 it was named the 25th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1.

Built on a simple three-chord pattern, the song lends itself nicely to a bluegrass banjo arrangement. Once you get the mechanics of the piece down, you’ll find that it’s a lot of fun to play! And let’s be honest – who doesn’t love punk rock on the ol’ 5-string?
